Web Novels - General Thread

There’s a lack of threads here for the readers of the nerd world. I know I started with anime before falling down the rabbit hole of manga before falling further into light novels, and now I read a lot of web novels and litrpgs that are self published and draw inspiration from that very same media.

Feel free to share recommendations, reviews, ask questions, or just discuss new releases of popular series!
I read mostly on Royal Road, but many people read from webnovel, scribblehub, Patreon, kindle unlimited, or a million and one bootleg sites and machine translated places for series from China, Japan, or Korea.

Back then in Middle/ HighSchool I used to love reading novels in Spanish and more mature ones like 50 shades of Grey , but over the years I stopped reading. Recently I started again since @Beestie bought me some novels to start

For me I read manga occasionally when I really enjoyed a show in high school, but after a while it got stale waiting for manga that was my style to come around.
From there I explored webtoon because that was new I guess and was exposed to manwha and manhua, that motivated me to work at asura scans for a while before I decided I didn’t like waiting for releases and I binge read all the source web novels in broken korean online(thanks Only I Am a Necromancer lol).

From there I just started reading everything I could find, Reincarnated as the Strongest Sword God and Overgeared got me into the VRMMO genre again and motivated me to read Ready Player One and Two which was a cool detour as well.
Lots of options and lots of different tropes.
Transmigration backwards through time is pretty common in Chinese and Korean novels, Isekai is more common from Japanese novels. Western novels like to have “systems” (though so do Chinese cultivation novels lol) It’s great to bounce around them all and absorb all the creativity and ideas and uniqueness.

What kind of novels are you going to try and start on? Any you’re excited about?

I’m not a fan of manga since I think it’s basically a comic in black and white :woman_shrugging:t4:. But right now, what I have is Apothecary Diaries novels at home

And on my Amazon cart this one I’m gonna buy next paycheck :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

You genius! I got an Amazon gift card and I haven’t known what to use it on, I definitely should pick up copies of some of my favorite series. Securing copies of Mysterious Girlfriend X or Sundome is kind of brutal though, so maybe I’ll grab apothecary diaries. I haven’t read it yet because I enjoyed the show so much I wanted to give them a chance for more seasons

Urabe was my favorite in High School. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I enjoyed the anime a lot. I wish it had more seasons :face_holding_back_tears:

It’s such a good read, the author also made another manga where they cameo MGX into it in a really meta way (the mother of the MC is the mangaka for MGX)

I’m finally caught up on Chaotic Craftsman Worships the Cube, man I am a SUCKER for crafting powers or mind magic, what a fun time. I guess it’s time to move down the list. Next up is catching up with public release of the Runesmith

It’s great to see a thread for fellow readers of the nerd world! Royal Road and Kindle Unlimited are my go-to platforms too. Looking forward to sharing and discovering awesome series, recommendations, and discussions here. Let’s keep the litRPG and web novel love alive! :books::sparkles:

I started watching a show that just started airing, “Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time” and after two episodes I went and secured the first ten books so I can read them at work :sob: I’m such a sucker for shows like that. Similar vibes to By the Grace of the Gods, and Aristocrats Otherworldly Adventure. When those aired I immediately binge read all of their source material
Thank goodness for the send to kindle service.

Sounds like I need to give it a squiz. Frothed “by the grace of the god’s”, have watched it a few times

Remembering how good the show was reminded me of how good parallel world pharmacy was too, maybe I’ll get around to reading that too sometime. When I’m not reading my daily release web trash like Floating Islands: SSS Gacha Sytem
I’ve got so many royal road series stacked up I just don’t have time for kindle unlimited or light novels unless I’m trying to save phone battery or data

Make sure you watch how a realist hero rebuilt the kingdom and ascendance of a bookworm. Basically must watches for that genre of “slice of life isekai fantasy with management or crafting and some level of politics”. I’ll throw in Great Cleric as a must read and discouraged watch. I tried to watch the new anime but they did the books dirty to a really disheartening degree, the books were fantastic.

Hahahahahahaha, literally watched both of them
Haven’t watched nor read Great Cleric as of yet though.
