Gakuen Heaven is both amusing and cute! <3 I think my first yaoi was Junjou Romantica. Though, it was so long ago I don’t remember which one I watched first. Especially since I watched several that a friend suggested to me within a short period.

I went the Sekaiichi Hatsukoi route after Gakuen Heaven then ran into Junjou Romantica! I never had anybody recommend me anything after so I had to go searching. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled on Sensitive Pornograph haha

Actually, I came across one of the first ones I watched very recently. Ai no Kusabi. It is on the darker side, but it is still an interesting BL anime.

I remember seeing this one before it got a rerelease but was pretty jarring to look at on just a visual aspect. Never got a chance to watch the 2012 version so I may give it a chance when I’m caught up on everything else I’m watching!

Unfortunately, the 2012 version is incomplete, so I’ll have to look up the original version to watch again. Though, I have found some books that were made of the series, which I intend to collect when I am able. I personally enjoyed the artwork, but I understand what you mean. I’ve had a few anime I’ve tried to watch that I just couldn’t because of the art style used.
