Ok, I just got home from work. On my drive home I drove past a group doing Trunk-or-Treat. Then I realized I didn’t see a single kid anywhere else on my whole drive home from work passing though all three towns trick or treating.
I’ve come to the conclusion that Halloween, or at least when it comes to Trick-or-Treaters is all but dead, as it’s been replaced by Trunk-or-Treat instead which in my opinion seems lame as it was thought up by church groups and helicopter parents. These parents are thinking they are doing this for the kids safety, to an extent they are, but statistics show that most kidnappings and other harmful or abuse done to kids is usually done by someone they all know who is either in their family of close to it.
Statistically speaking kids are much safer today then they were in the 80’s or 90’s but 24 hour news has sensationalize all the negative so much people are scared to let kids be kids. I can’t remember the last time I seen kids out playing outside anywhere really, when I was a kid I ran wild thoughout the neighborhood with all my friends everywhere.
The whole razor blades and needles in candy was only recorded once in all of Halloween history and it was done by a parent to their own kids. Strangers are not giving kids drugs in their candy, as drugs are…well surprise expensive and most users wouldn’t waste their stash on giving it to kids.
All trunk-or-treat is doing is making kids more socially awkward then they already are, and limiting their expiriance and fun. Not to mention all the older folks who don’t have kids but wish they had kids or grandkids or are disabled, but enjoy seeing the kids in their costumes are all missing out on the fun since trunk-or-treat became a thing. I used to get a few trick-or-treaters years ago every year, but they dwindled in numbers over the years and since 2020 I haven’t had a single trick-or-treater at my apartment, even if it’s fully decked out with decorations and the porch light is on. So this year I didn’t bother decorating or buying candy to give out, as there was no point and it was a waste of money. I’m just glad I grew up when I did in the 80’s and 90’s when kids could still be kids.
Sorry I kind of went out on a tangent there.
