You can call me Newtype or simply Dahlia. I’m a transgender woman in my early 30’s living in the U.S., and I’m currently happily engaged to an absolutely wonderful woman and the love of my life. I came across the forum by chance searching for places to talk about Gundam. My username comes from the psychic “Newtypes” of the classic Universal Century Gundam shows, so that probably shouldn’t be surprising. I hadn’t been aware of Otakubox before, but now I am and might consider it in the future.
I’m here because I’ve been searching around for anime communities online to engage with .I have a hard time really following things seasonally, so I feel like having people around to discuss things with would be really encouraging. Something to get me motivated to try new shows/manga or get around to stuff I haven’t had the energy or focus for yet. More recently, after having more of my own income, I’ve been trying to collect more manga, get back into gunpla models, and dip my toes into other anime figures. So being able to show off my stuff or ask around for advice in those areas might be nice. Plus I’ve mostly just been hanging out online in more close knit discords and really wanna branch out a bit.

I try to be varied in what I watch: older shows, newer shows, comedy, drama, action, sports, romance, etc. But my love of horror, mecha, and yuri is probably apparent.
Outside of anime / manga and models, I obviously have my share of other hobbies. I love theater and acting, and have been involved in community theater for years. I love horror films and games, to the point where I used to run one of the bigger Silent Hill communities back in the day. I adore tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons and I’m currently in a Chronicles of Darkness campaign. I play plenty of video games, and I’ve been trying to branch out into new genres. Final Fantasy XIV has been my first MMO, I’m currently in Shadowbringers. I’ve been absolutely adoring the story, and found myself enjoying healing and tanking way more than I expected. Meanwhile, I’ve been trying to get into fighting games, dipping my toe into Guilty Gear Strive and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising.
