What's an anime that you enjoyed but has mixed reviews?

I’ve watched hundreds of Anime and I tend to find something I enjoy in all of them, obviously some are still better than others but I can’t think of any that I would say I regret watching. I was going through my watched list with a fellow enthusiast when we came across Guilty Crown, they started talking about how they hated it and that it was a terrible Anime. Now while I don’t consider it to be the best Anime I’ve ever seen, I still thought it was an interesting story that also shows how experience can change people into the very thing they despise, I also loved the beautiful animation which is why I still enjoyed it. I never look at Anime reviews because I enjoy forming my own opinion first, but I decided to look at the reviews for Guilty Crown after that conversation and a lot of people felt that same way as the person I spoke with. Are there any Anime that you really enjoyed but some people thought was terrible? Would love some cool recommendations that you all would consider a hidden gem!

It’s hard to discuss about the personal taste. If you like it, you like it.

I definitely agree, I’m more so asking because I’m hoping to get some cool recommendations for anime that maybe dont have the best reviews but are a hidden gem to others.

Yes, I have a similar approach. Sometimes bad reviews help me find stuff I like :joy:

I love Takt, such a beautiful and heart wrenching storyline

“Actually, I Am…”. The anime didn’t do the manga justice but I still enjoyed it.

The companion question to this is what anime did you not enjoy that seems to be on everyone’s watch list. For me, that’s “One Piece” and “Demon Slayer”. I just could not get into either one of them at all.

Takt Op Destiny was pretty good. I quite enjoyed that too. Too bad that the anime was a prequel and the rest of the story was to be released in video game form. I wonder if the game has already been released…

I’ll definitely add “Actually, I Am…” to my watchlist, haven’t heard of it so excited to check it out!

I definitely agree about One Piece, maybe if I had started it when it first came out I’d have a bit more of the nostalgic feeling towards it that many others have but I’m up to episode 623 and while it’s ok I still haven’t fallen in love but maybe as it progresses I’ll feel differently lol still so much to go.

My biggest complaint about “Actually, I Am…” is the change in art style from manga to anime. The manga has a really unique look that sucked me in right away. The anime went with something more traditional and I feel like it lost something.

The show is still solid and I enjoyed it, but I missed the art.

Guilty crown is one of the first animes I watched so it will always be up there for me. But blue exorcist seems to get a lot of hate online for some reason but in my opinion it’s one of my favorite animes Ive watched and is most definitely the best manga I’ve read.

No problem. Just a heads up before you do the last portion of the first season isn’t canon and the second season is canon just incase it gets a bit confusing. But still a brilliant watch

I’d say Pop Team Epic! But I don’t why there are this many mixed reviews. I personally enjoyed every episode

Personally, my favorites are Kiddy Grade (7.2) and Dancouga Nova (6). Neither are what I would call good, but I found the characters intriguing.

Good characters can save a “just okay” anime. Bad characters can kill what might have been an excellent one.

Here is a fellow person of culture. I haven’t watched the anime but own most of the manga (missing volume 4 because it’s stupid expensive, for some reason) and yes, it’s honestly one of my faves as an avid consumer of that flavor of manga.

One Piece, I didn’t even try. I’m too ADHD for something that long. Demon Slayer I liked but you can definitely tell that last arc was rushed.

Anime that I’ve liked with mixed reviews, there’s Killing Bites. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea so I can totally see why reviews are mixed.
